Why Does My Toilet Make a Weird Noise When I Flush?
The normal sounds you hear when flushing the toilet can sometimes be, well, soothing to say the least. In a way, it’s a testament to knowing that your bathroom is operating as it should with no issues. And while this is great, hearing other, foreign sounds can be not only stressful to you, but point to a larger issue currently happening within your plumbing system. Below are a few things to know and keep in mind!
Foghorn Sound
If you’re thinking that you can hear something of a foghorn sound when flushing, the culprit might just be a small piece of rubber! Check and lift the float ball all the way to the top of the tank when you hear the noise. If the noise stops afterwards, you’re likely stuck with a loose or worn washer in the ballcock mechanism.
Whining Noises
Checking for a whining noise that you hear could be an issue associated with the waterflow in your home, with the toilet in mind. Make sure that your main shutoff valve to the toilet is in the fully open position, where water can freely come in. Restricting this flow of water to the toilet can not only mean it’s not getting enough water, but could also be the issue you’re hearing as the tank is filling with water.
Buzzing Noises
Hearing something of a buzz when you’re flushing the toilet can also be the annoying sound with seemingly no fix. This one is a little trickier and deals with the fill valve associated with your toilet. This mechanism can be a bit more tricky to work on, so make sure you know what you’re doing and carefully remove the old one for a seamless reinstallation!
